CAPVI (the California Association for Parents of Children with Visual Impairments) is the California affiliate of NAPVI, the National Association for Parents of Children with Visual Impairments. CAPVI exists to
- promote and provide information to parents of children with visual impairments, through workshops, email and publications
- provide opportunities for parents and professionals to network
- increase public awareness about children with visual impairments so that they may be more easily included in the community
- foster communication and coordination of services between state and local agencies and organizations involved with people with visual impairments
- advocate for educational needs and welfare of children who are blind or visually impaired
CAPVI holds its annual general meetings at the annual CTEVH Conference. In addition, CAPVI arranges workshop sessions at CTEVH for parents. See www.ctevh.org for details and information about an upcoming conference.
CAPVI is a co-sponsor of the annual Lowenfeld-Akeson Symposium, held at the California School for the Blind in Fremont, usually in February.
CAPVI tries to hold regional meetings in various parts of California upon request of local parents, for the purposes of networking and information, to assist with forming small regional chapters.
CAPVI is a member of the Joint Action Committee of Organizations of and For the Visually Impaired (www.jacforvi.org).
